In a strategic move to support Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in Ghana, MTN Ghana has launched the 2024 edition of MTN SME Month.
The 2024 MTN SME Month aims to provide a dynamic platform for SMEs to showcase their products and services, engage with potential customers, and connect with industry peers.
Throughout the month, MTN Ghana will highlight its SME-focused products and services, sharing success stories, and promoting exclusive discounts and tailored incentives to drive business growth.
MTN Ghana’s SME Month is dedicated to equipping SMEs with the necessary tools and opportunities to thrive in a digital economy, solidifying MTN’s commitment to fostering economic development through digital transformation.
The event, inaugurated on July 3rd at the AMA Car Park, sets the stage for a three-day fair designed to empower SMEs through exposure and networking opportunities.
At the launch event in Accra, Angela Mensah Poku, MTN Ghana’s Chief Enterprise Business Officer, highlighted the significance of July as SME Month, a time dedicated annually to celebrating and supporting MTN’s SME customers.
She noted, “For the past few years, July has been the month we focus on our SME customers because they are crucial to the economy.
Yet, many of them operate informally, so it’s essential for us, as a tech company, to understand their needs and offer relevant digital solutions.”
Reflecting on feedback from the previous year, Mensah Poku acknowledged that SMEs need more than just technological solutions. “They asked for support in capacity building, training, insurance, financing, and networking. This year, we’ve partnered with various organizations to address these needs,” she explained.
One notable initiative this year is the collaboration with Absa for the “Our Women Roadshows,” aimed at female entrepreneurs who make up a significant portion of informal businesses across Africa.
“This initiative is designed to connect with female business owners, offering training and skills to formalize and elevate their businesses,” Mensah Poku said.
She emphasized that SME Month is part of a broader effort to support SMEs year-round, with ongoing new products, services, and partnerships.
“Launching SME Month today is a proud moment, and we aim to continue this focus throughout the year, always seeking feedback to improve our offerings for SMEs,” Mensah Poku stated.
According to Angela Mensah Poku, as part of SME Month, various activities will be held at market centers in Accra, Kumasi, and towns across all 16 regions of Ghana.
Saddick Abubakari, Senior Manager of SME Sales at MTN Ghana, elaborated on the key activities planned for SME Month.

He highlighted that the month will feature SME fairs, where businesses can showcase their products and services. These fairs provide a valuable platform for SMEs to network, exchange ideas, and collaborate with peers and industry stakeholders.
Tsonam Akpeloo, the Greater Accra Chairman of the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI), acknowledged the significant contribution of SMEs to Ghana’s economy but noted their vulnerability to economic downturns.
He commended MTN Ghana for launching the SME Month initiative, emphasizing that it will greatly support and empower SMEs across the country.
