Police Intercept Truck with 3,009 Suspected Narcotics Slabs; Two Arrested for Bribery
Driver flees after intelligence-led operation at Sege Akpla Manya; suspects arrested for attempting to bribe police to secure release of seized drugs

The Tema Regional Police Command has intercepted a truck carrying more than 3,000 slabs of substances suspected to be narcotic drugs and arrested two persons for attempting to bribe police officers.
The interception followed an intelligence-led operation conducted in the early hours of 15 February 2026, when officers from the Regional Patrols Unit stopped a Sinotruk tipper truck, registration number GN 993-14, at Sege Akpla Manya.
Police said the truck was loaded with fertilizer sacks containing 3,009 slabs of plant material suspected to be cannabis. The driver reportedly abandoned the vehicle upon sighting the police and fled the scene. The truck and its contents have since been impounded at the Tema Regional Police Headquarters to support ongoing investigations. Efforts are underway to arrest the driver and establish ownership of the vehicle.
In a related development, on 16 February 2026 at about 7:10 p.m., two suspects—Victor Asigbey, 40, and Peter Asigbey, 35—were arrested at the Regional Criminal Investigations Department (CID) office in Tema for allegedly attempting to bribe police officers with GH¢150,000. The suspects are said to have sought to unlawfully influence officers to release the impounded truck and the suspected narcotic substances. The cash has been retrieved and kept as an exhibit.
The two suspects are currently in police custody assisting with investigations and are expected to be arraigned before court on 18 February 2026.
The Tema Regional Police Command reiterated its commitment to combating narcotic-related offences and upholding professionalism and integrity in its operations.
