Ghanaian police in a major operation intercepted a cache of substances suspected to be narcotic drugs, a release said on Tuesday.

According to the statement, the operation conducted Sunday along the highway between the eastern port city of Tema and Akosombo yielded 1,613 parcels of suspected narcotic substances being transported in a Toyota Highlander and a Mitsubishi Pajero cross-country vehicle.

After receiving intelligence that suspected narcotic drugs were being transported from the Volta Region toward Accra, the capital, the police mounted a roadblock at a vantage point to conduct snap checks on vehicles.
