GES Cracks Down on Illegal WASSCE Registrations: Only Form 3 Students Eligible
School heads warned of sanctions after reports of unauthorised registration of younger students and private candidates

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has issued a stern warning to heads of Senior High Schools and Technical Schools over the unauthorised registration of students for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
In a statement released in Accra on January 8, 2026, and signed by Daniel Fenyi, Head of Public Relations at GES, the service expressed concern over reports that some school heads have been registering Form Two students and private candidates, allegedly in exchange for fees.
GES clarified that such practices breach the regulations governing WASSCE registration. Only Form Three students, whose academic progression from Year One to Year Three is properly documented in a school’s records, are eligible for official registration by school authorities.

The Service emphasised that no school official has the authority to register younger students or private candidates under any circumstances. It described the practice as misconduct and an abuse of office, particularly when money is involved.

GES has cautioned all school heads and staff to immediately stop the illegal registrations. The statement further noted that disciplinary action, including sanctions in line with GES and West African Examinations Council (WAEC) regulations, will be applied without exception to anyone found culpable.
