The National Lottery Authority (NLA) has paid a GH¢10 million dividend to the Ministry of Finance for the Consolidated Fund. This payment marks a significant milestone in the Authority’s efforts to strengthen financial accountability and enhance its contribution to national development.
The NLA team was led by Board Chairman Mr Frederick Amissah, who informed the Minister of the Authority’s interventions to shore up revenue, including a directive for all Private Lotto Operators (PLOs) to cease manual operations and migrate to Point of Sale terminals.
He also entreated the Minister to support the Authority in acquiring logistics to enhance operational efficiency.
Presenting the cheque on behalf of the NLA’s Board, Management and Staff, the Director-General, Mr. Mohammed Abdul-Salam, described the payment as a clear indication that the Authority’s ongoing reforms are beginning to deliver positive results.

He emphasized that the NLA, as a state-owned institution, has a responsibility to generate value for the people of Ghana and to contribute meaningfully to government revenue.
According to the Director-General, the NLA has launched a comprehensive reform programme to improve efficiency, transparency and revenue generation. Key measures include reviewing revenue-sharing arrangements with private operators, adopting an open, competitive licensing framework to eliminate exclusivity, and implementing independent, real-time revenue-monitoring systems across all licensed operations.
He also announced plans to introduce a Sports Fund Lotto in collaboration with the Ghana Sports Fund to support sports development in Ghana and increase contributions to national development.
Receiving the cheque on behalf of the Government of Ghana, the Minister for Finance, Hon. Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, welcomed the Authority’s return to contributing to the Consolidated Fund, a positive step towards restoring its role in supporting government finances.
He said the Ministry of Finance will collaborate with the Office of the Attorney-General to review existing agreements that affect the Authority’s revenue position, ensuring national interests are adequately protected.
While commending the NLA for its GH¢10 million contribution, the Minister stressed that the Authority could generate significantly higher returns for the state. He urged the NLA to remain focused on its core mandate and remit surplus funds to the government to support public services and national development initiatives.
The presentation demonstrates the National Lottery Authority’s renewed commitment to transparency, good governance and improved financial performance, positioning the institution to make stronger contributions to Ghana’s socio-economic development in the years ahead.
