MTN Ghana has donated cash and assorted food items valued at GH₵200,000 to the Muslim community ahead of this year’s Eid al-Fitr celebrations, reinforcing its long-standing commitment to social support and community engagement.
The items presented included 30 bags of rice, one ram, 20 cartons of vegetable oil, 40 packs of mineral water, assorted soft drinks, 10 trays of tinned milk, 10 bags of sugar, boxes of tea bags, and sachet Milo.
MTN Ghana indicated that similar donations are being extended to Muslim communities in Kumasi, Takoradi, and other parts of the country as part of a nationwide initiative.
The donation was presented in Accra to the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Osmanu Nuhu Sharubutu, by the Chief Digital Officer of MTN Ghana, Ibrahim Misto, on behalf of the company and MobileMoney LTD.
Speaking to the media, Mr. Misto said the visit forms part of MTN Ghana’s annual tradition of engaging the Chief Imam to express appreciation for his leadership, guidance, and continuous support to both the Muslim community and the company.

“This is an annual visit. I was here last year, and we are here again as we approach Eid al-Fitr to thank His Eminence for his wisdom, guidance, and the critical role the Muslim community continues to play as key partners in our journey,” he stated.
He noted that this year’s engagement is particularly significant as MTN Ghana marks 30 years of operations, describing the Muslim community as instrumental to the company’s growth over the decades.
Mr. Misto further assured customers of uninterrupted service during the festive period, emphasizing that teams will be on standby to provide support, resolve customer issues, and offer education where needed.
“As we celebrate, our teams will be available to provide all the necessary support to ensure customers enjoy a smooth and secure festive period,” he added.
As part of its Eid activities, the company will also deploy customer engagement teams at key locations to educate the public on Mobile Money fraud prevention, assist with transactions and registrations, and provide real-time customer support.
Meanwhile, Senior Manager for Commercial at MobileMoney LTD, Abdul-Majeed Rufai, assured customers of intensified measures to combat Mobile Money fraud.
He explained that most fraud cases are driven by social engineering tactics rather than system vulnerabilities, stressing that the MoMo platform remains secure.
“Fraudsters often rely on deception fake promotions, false claims of mistakenly sent money, or payment requests for supposed deliveries. These are not system breaches but deliberate attempts to mislead customers,” he said.
Mr. Rufai revealed that the company is actively blocking millions of fraudulent SMS messages designed to mimic official MoMo communications, while scaling up public education through its “Shine Your Eye” campaign.
According to him, the campaign focuses on educating customers in local languages about common fraud tactics and how to avoid them.
He outlined key safety measures: never disclose your Mobile Money PIN, avoid engaging with unsolicited calls claiming money transfers, and never allow others to perform transactions on your behalf.
Customers were also advised to trust only MTN’s official communication channels and report suspicious activities via shortcode 419.
MTN Ghana also hinted at upcoming initiatives, including special promotions and packages for the Hajj period, as part of its continued innovation and customer-focused services.
