Young women have been encouraged to take advantage of available opportunities to compete with their male counterparts in their fields. They have also been advised to engage in voluntary service to gain valuable exposure.
These remarks were made by the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Cedar Femme Media, Ms. Regina Odigie-Olatayo, known in media circles as Queen Reg, at the recently concluded maiden edition of the “CeFEM Skills For Her Initiative” held in Accra.
The two-day workshop was designed to provide free training for young women in cinematography and photography. Ms. Odigie-Olatayo explained that the main aim of the initiative is to build an ecosystem that encourages young women to take bold steps in achieving their goals in male-dominated environments.
Focusing on the media industry, she further explained that Cedar Femme Media recognized the need to train young women in media production to change the male-dominated narrative in that field. She pointed out that women constitute about 30% to 40% of media production professionals, a situation she believes does not allow for sufficient competition. She urged participants to leverage technology to improve their skills.

Queen Reg noted that this approach would enable young women to compete with their male counterparts and excel. She therefore admonished participants to apply the knowledge they had acquired and achieve the desired results.
The workshop brought together professionals, entrepreneurs, and students. They were trained in smartphone video production and editing, basic video production, video editing, photography production, social media content creation, and drone piloting.
