Christians Urged to Deepen Relationship with Jesus Christ
Christians have been urged to deepen their relationship with Jesus Christ, emphasizing that a personal understanding of Him is essential for living a victorious life. Without this connection, such triumph remains unattainable.
Deacon Adomako Akwesi of the International Central Gospel Church (ICGC) Holy Hills Temple delivered a sermon titled “Who is Jesus to You?” on Sunday, based on Matthew 16:13-27. He emphasized the importance of having a deep, personal knowledge of Jesus for achieving spiritual triumph.
“As Christians, we must know who Jesus is. Without this knowledge, it’s impossible to live a life of victory,” he said, urging believers to prioritize intimacy with Christ over mere religious practices.
Emulating Peter’s Boldness
Deacon Akwesi pointed to the Apostle Peter’s confession of Jesus as the Son of God as an example of spiritual revelation that leads to greater authority and purpose. He encouraged Christians to seek similar insights, which he said come through the Holy Spirit and dedicated study of the Bible.
“Like Peter, we must recognize Jesus as the Son of God,” he noted. “This revelation deepens our spiritual authority and aligns us with God’s purpose for our lives.”
Actionable Steps for Spiritual Growth
The sermon provided practical guidance for believers, urging them to:
- Move beyond ritualistic worship to seek a personal encounter with Jesus.
- Cultivate the Holy Spirit’s guidance to reveal the fullness of Christ.
- Commit to regular Bible study to understand Jesus’ divine nature and mission.
Victory Through Jesus
Deacon Akwesi explained that Jesus, as the Son of God, represents the fullness of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. By embracing Him, believers share in this divine essence, which guarantees victory in life.
“Just as Jesus could not be killed before His time, believers carry a divine assurance of protection and purpose,” he stated, encouraging the congregation to trust in Christ’s power.

He concluded with a resounding charge: “In this Year of Jesus, make knowing Him your priority. Bring your challenges to Him, and through His power, you will find answers. Victory is assured for those who walk with Christ.”
2025: The Year of Jesus
The declaration of 2025 as the “Year of Jesus” sets the stage for spiritual renewal among Christians worldwide. Deacon Akwesi urged believers to deepen their faith, knowledge, and relationship with Christ to manifest the victory promised in Him.
The Pastor, Rev. Oscar Morrison, led the congregation in a prayer that concluded with declarations of victory and a reaffirmation of God’s presence through Christ, leaving the congregation inspired to pursue a year of spiritual growth and.
