The Giwa XI team, led by the Adantem Hene of Okuapeman, Sariki Abass Giwa I, claimed a hard-fought victory over the Afro-Arab XI, captained by the Youth Ambassador for Peace and Development, Ambassador Alhaji Salamu Amadu. The friendly match, held at the newly renovated Afro-Arab Arena in Kokomlemle, Accra, ended with a thrilling 16-15 scoreline in favor of Giwa XI.
This symbolic event aimed to promote peace and harmony among the youth in Zongo communities nationwide, emphasizing the importance of maintaining unity before, during, and after Ghana’s 2024 general elections. The Afro-Arab Arena, which recently underwent renovations, served as a fitting venue for this initiative, reaffirming its role as a hub for peace and development.
Ambassador Alhaji Salamu Amadu, who is also the President and Founder of the Afro-Arab Group of Companies, highlighted the significance of the match in fostering peace. “Peace is a precious asset that should not be taken for granted. I urge the youth in Zongo communities to stay away from violence. Ghana is the only place we have, and it is our responsibility to protect it,” he remarked.
Sariki Abass Giwa I echoed this sentiment, encouraging the youth to unite and embrace peace as they prepare for the elections. He expressed his hope that the 2024 general elections would be among the most peaceful in Ghana’s history.
The event also served as a call to action for political leaders. Ambassador Amadu urged the two major political parties to prioritize peace and encourage their supporters to avoid divisive actions. He commended the National Election Taskforce, led by the Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, for their commitment to ensuring a secure electoral process.
The peace match was more than just a game; it was a powerful reminder of the value of unity and responsible participation in Ghana’s democracy. The high-stakes game sent a clear message to all Ghanaians: peace is essential for the nation’s progress and stability.
