The Ghana Free Zones Authority (GFZA) has engaged with the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI) as of part efforts to help strengthen and bolster Ghana’s business sector.
The meeting was also focused on how the Ghana Free Zones Authority could utilize the private sector to promote economic growth.
In an interview with Ambassador Mike Oquaye JNR, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Ghana Free Zones Authority mentioned that their collaboration with AGI focused on strategies to increase local participation in the sector.
It is essential to highlight that the government is taking concerted efforts to boost business capacity in Ghana. As a result, it is crucial to bring together businessmen from Ghana. Stressing that the primary objective of the government is to enhance the business prowess of the nation.
According to him, there’s a widespread misconception that the Ghana Free Zone is exclusively designed to serve the needs of foreigners.
He explained that the Free Zone handles exporting goods from the country to other nations, and both foreigners and Ghanaians are involved in the business.

Exporting goods entails selling them to various markets and countries, encompassing individuals from diverse races and nationalities, not just limited to foreign buyers.
“According to Ambassador Mike Oquaye JNR., the Free Zone is composed of 33% foreigners, 33% Ghanaians, and 34% a combination of Ghanaians and foreigners working together. This results in an equal proportion for all individuals involved.
The Free Zone has an equal distribution of foreigners, Ghanaians, and Ghanaians/foreigners working together, ensuring fairness and balance,” he explained.
He pointed out that African countries, despite their smaller population, have the ability to produce a higher output. The meeting was held under the theme: “The Role of Ghana Free Zones Authority in Harnessing the Potential of The Private Sector for Economic Growth “.
