I Remain the CPP Chair—Says Nana Akosua Frimpomaa

The Chairperson of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), Nana Akosua Frimpomaa Sarpong-Kumankumah, has stated unequivocally that she is still the party’s Chair.

According to her, the Electoral Commission (EC), the body that conducted the elections says it can not conduct elections for the second time for the position of the chairmanship because the party already has one and that is her.

Speaking to a section of the media at the party headquarters on Thursday, she said some executives of the party, including Nana Yaa Gyantua, dragged her to the EC first and later to court to prevent her from holding herself out as the chairperson of the party.

“Yaa Gyantua secretly wrote to the EC for a re-run and the EC has replied that it could not conduct a re-run for the reasons mentioned above.

Her reason was that I didn’t merit the position because I didn’t obtain the required number of votes to be made the chairperson but that I was made the chairperson because some leaders of the party decided to make me the chairperson,” she stated.

“I didn’t choose myself as the National Chair and Leader of the Convention People’s Party. I was voted for and so I am still in charge,” she asserted.

Madam Sarpong-Kumankumah also disclosed that for almost 5 months, her rival has been parading the courts seeking to restrain her from holding her position, and the case has been thrown out. She added

She revealed further that one gentleman named Onxy Nathan has also been the acting chairperson of the party. He called on the public to disregard him.

She, however, used the opportunity to thank the media for their unflinching support so far on this matter.
