KNUST Executive Committee suspends Hall and SRC week celebrations indefinitely after Katanga-Conti clash

 

The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has taken several decisions to deal with indiscipline among students following the clash between resident students of University Hall, popularly known as Katanga, and Unity Hall, popularly known as Conti.

This follows a violent clash that ensued on Thursday night, leading to chaos amid the destruction of vehicles and other properties.

The Executive Committee of the University, at an Emergency Meeting held today, August, 19 have constituted a Fact-Finding Committee to establish the causes of the disturbances.

The KNUST Executive Committee has with immediate effect suspended Hall Week and SRC Week celebrations indefinitely.

In addition, the massing up of students leading up to ‘morale’ activities and procession is suspended indefinitely

The statement issued by KNUST adds that random security checks of persons and vehicles entering and exiting the University campus will be carried out from henceforth.

Meanwhile, the Transport Department of the University has been directed to take custody of all the vehicles that were vandalised during the disturbances and make appropriate recommendations for repairs.
