Some Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) from the five regions in the north and Oti Region mounted an exhibition in Accra on Thursday aimed at attracting investments to create access to water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) services in their communities.
The exhibition was part of the maiden WASH Investment Plan (WIP) Marketing Summit organized by the World Vision Ghana (WVG), Global Communities, Ministry of Sanitation and Water Resources, and the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development, under the USAID-funded Enhancing WASH Activities Project.
The event was under the theme “Water, Sanitation and Hygiene for All: Unlocking Opportunities for Partnership with MMDA,” and sought to complement the efforts by the government and development partners by creating a platform for cost-effective investments and public-private partnerships to accelerate WASH service delivery in Ghana.
At least 16 MMDAs from the six regions participated in the summit and exhibition. They include Yendi, Gushegu, Sagnarigu, East Mamprusi, and Sissala East Municipalities.
The others are Mion, Karaga, Nanton, Mamprugu Moagduri, Bawku West, Garu, Tempane, Nadowli-Kaleo, Sissala West, Wa East, and Dafiama Bussie Issa Districts.
As part of the preparations for the event, the partners trained and guided the beneficiary assemblies to develop marketable proposals, denoting priority WASH investment opportunities in their jurisdictions to attract investments from the private sector and development partners.

“The WIP has come at a very important time to ensure that WASH services are prioritized and sustainably implemented at the local levels to drive progress towards universal access,” Emefa Baidoo, Deputy Chief of Party for Global Communities said during the opening.
She said bringing stakeholders together under such innovative projects can unlock the potential for these WASH investments and ensure that every Ghanaian, has access to clean water and sanitation.
Robel Wamisho, WASH Programme Manager for WVG, explained that the WASH WIP is a strategic document that provides an integrated approach for the delivery of WASH services in the districts.
Wamisho urged the private sector, development partners, and donors to contribute their share in supporting the WIPs prepared by the MMDAs.
