Russian scientists develop advanced aircraft coating to reduce repairs

Russian scientists have developed a lightweight aircraft coating that significantly reduces the frequency of repairs, the National Research Center Kurchatov Institute said in a recent report.
The institution said that the new paint and varnish system uses fluorinated polyurethane enamel in a wide range of colors, as well as a weather-resistant varnish. It works effectively on both metal and polymer composite materials used in aviation.
Compared to foreign alternatives, the home-made product decreases repair frequency by at least 40 percent, cuts painting time by more than 50 percent, and weighs 35 percent less, the institution noted.
