CDD-Ghana Mourns Victims of Helicopter Crash, Calls for Compassion and Thorough Investigation

The Ghana Center for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana) has expressed its deepest condolences to the families of the eight individuals who perished in Wednesday’s Ghana Armed Forces helicopter crash in the Ashanti Region.

The victims included Minister for Defence, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, and Minister for Environment, Science, and Technology, Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed.

In a statement, CDD-Ghana extended its sympathies to President John Dramani Mahama, the Government of Ghana, the Ghana Armed Forces, and the National Democratic Congress (NDC), all of whom have lost “dedicated and distinguished members in this national tragedy.”

The crash occurred on August 6, 2025, while the officials were en route to Obuasi to launch a government initiative aimed at combating illegal mining.

CDD-Ghana urged the public and the media to “show compassion, respect the dignity of the deceased, and the privacy of the bereaved families” during this period of grief. The organization also supported calls for a thorough investigation into the cause of the accident.

“This heart-breaking loss should strengthen our resolve to intensify the fight against the destructive practice of illegal mining,” the statement read.
