IGP to Promote Officers Behind Arrest of Sammy Gyamfi’s In-Law’s Killers
Police chief says officers who showed exceptional bravery and professionalism in the arrest of suspects linked to the killing will be rewarded with promotions.

The Inspector-General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has reaffirmed his commitment to recognising and rewarding police officers who display exceptional bravery, discipline and professionalism in the line of duty.
Speaking to press in Kumasi after a series of major crime-fighting breakthroughs, the IGP stressed that hard work deserves recognition, noting that dignity is found in service and dedication. He assured that officers who merit recognition would be duly rewarded.
Popularly known within the Service as the “Turnaround Tiger,” Mr Yohuno disclosed that personnel from the Ashanti Region, Ahafo Region and Tema who have distinguished themselves in recent operations would be promoted to their next ranks without delay.
On Monday, February 23, 2026, at about 7:00 p.m., the IGP hosted a special dinner in honour of selected officers at the Lancaster Hotel. The event was aimed at appreciating their efforts and motivating them to intensify operations against criminals who threaten the safety of law-abiding citizens.
The celebrations continued the following day at the forecourt of the Ashanti Regional Police Headquarters, where deserving officers were formally honoured for their dedication and sacrifices.
One of the notable operations that led to the commendations occurred in the Ashanti Region, where police, following a well-coordinated investigation, arrested four suspects, including three members of a robbery gang linked to an incident at Owhim Tigo Junction, during which one person was shot dead. The deceased was identified as the father-in-law of Sammy Gyamfi, Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board.
Police said the gang leader, Eric Antwi Duku, who specialised in snatching pickup trucks and Toyota Land Cruiser vehicles for sale to contacts in Paga, was shot dead during the operation. Investigations further revealed that the syndicate had links to similar robberies in Tarkwa, Kumasi and other parts of the Ashanti Region, often trailing victims and opening fire when resisted.
In a separate operation in the Ahafo Region, police on patrol along the Ayomso–Goaso road on Sunday, February 22, 2026, intercepted two suspects riding an unregistered motorcycle. A search led to the discovery of an AK-47 rifle loaded with ammunition, with further searches uncovering additional weapons, communication devices and other offensive items.
Meanwhile, about two weeks earlier in Tema, police intercepted a truck transporting more than 3,000 compressed slabs of substances suspected to be Indian hemp. During interrogation, two individuals, including a National Security operative, allegedly attempted to bribe officers with GH¢150,000. The suspects were arrested, and the money retained as evidence.
Commending officers involved in the various operations, the IGP assured them of the unwavering support of the Ghana Police Service, emphasising that integrity, discipline and courage remain the core values of the Service.

He also expressed gratitude to John Mahama for providing the police with essential logistics to enhance operational effectiveness, and urged the public to support the police by volunteering credible information.
Warning criminals, the IGP said the police would leave no stone unturned in pursuing offenders.
“We will pursue them, arrest them, and bring them to justice. That is a promise,” he said.
