Secular-turned-gospel artiste Mike Kesse has opened up about his involvement in the hit song “Azonto Fiesta,” admitting that he initially had no knowledge of its commercial status.
In a candid interview on Highway 10.19 on ZED FM with Richard Stix, Mike Kesse reflected on how the song came about and what it taught him about the music industry.
“The Azonto Fiesta wasn’t my song; it was a commercial song, which I knew nothing about at the time. I only later got to know about it,” Mike Kesse said.
He explained that his participation in the track came after being contacted by renowned producer Appietus to collaborate with rapper Sarkodie. “I was being contacted by Appietus to do the song with Sarkodie. Then we did it. That is it,” he said.
Looking back, Mike Kesse admitted that youth and inexperience shaped his understanding of the situation. “When you are growing, your thoughts and how you understand things are weak. When you grow, then it becomes real. Wow,” he noted.
It took Mike Kesse a few months to realize that “Azonto Fiesta” was a commercial track. Despite this, he chose not to pursue financial claims or confront the parties involved. “I just decided, for a reason. You never ask them any question. Why would they tell you the truth? You just have to have good answers and let it be, so I did not ask anything,” he explained.
Mike Kesse also revealed that he does not expect to receive any proceeds from the song. “If possible, they would have done it. But as I said, if you are growing, stuff like this will definitely happen to you,” he added.
The revelation offers fans a glimpse into the often complex nature of the Ghanaian music industry, showing how even established artistes can sometimes be unaware of the commercial machinery behind their work. For Mike Kesse, “Azonto Fiesta” remains an important milestone in his career, even if the financial rewards were not his to claim.
