Prampram Explosion: Kingmakers Allege Plot To Bribe Judiciary In Murder Trial Of Nene Tetteh Wakah III

Kingmakers in the Prampram Traditional Area of the Greater Accra Region have raised serious allegations against embattled chief, Nene Tetteh Wakah III, claiming there is a calculated attempt to interfere with the judicial process in his ongoing murder trial at the Accra High Court.

In a strongly worded statement signed by the Paramount Stoolfather, Nene Osabu Abbey IV, the kingmakers alleged that they have received credible intelligence suggesting thatthe illegitimate Nene Tetteh Wakah III is planning to use proceeds from the sale of a disputed family land in Prampram to Chinese investors to allegedly influence the judicial bench handling his case. According to them, the alleged scheme is intended to secure either an acquittal or a prolonged delay in the proceedings.

Nene Tetteh Wakah III, whose legitimacy as chief of Prampram remains heavily contested in some quarters, is standing trial together with eight others in connection with the murder of Nene Ayeh Otusei Kro II, a family head in Prampram.
The incident is reported to have occurred on October 26, 2021.

The case, which has attracted widespread public interest, has experienced delays at the High Court, raising concerns among some residents who are demanding swift justice. Sections of the Prampram community have attributed the slow pace of proceedings to suspected behind-the-scenes interference, claims that the kingmakers insist should not be dismissed.

According to the statement, intelligence allegedly gathered from associates of the embattled chief indicates that funds from the sale of family land could be used to “buy freedom” in the ongoing legal battle. However, these claims remain allegations and have not been independently verified.

The kingmakers are therefore calling on the Attorney-General and the Inspector-General of Police to ensure that justice is neither compromised nor delayed in The State vs. Nene Tetteh Wakah III and 8 Others. They further urged the authorities to closely monitor any attempts to obstruct or undermine the judicial process.

Additionally, they appealed to President John Dramani Mahama to direct the IGP to reopen investigations into all chieftaincy-related murders in Prampram since the emergence of Nene Tetteh Wakah III on the chieftaincy scene.

The kingmakers referenced the killing of Nene Atsure Bentah III in 2018, describing him as an illustrious son of Prampram who was allegedly murdered while opposing moves to enstool Nene Tetteh Wakah IV as chief.

According to them, more than five chieftaincy-related killings have occurred in the area in recent years without a single conviction, leaving families of the deceased without closure.
“Prampram cannot know peace until justice is served,” portions of the statement read, adding that the government must ensure accountability and restore confidence in the rule of law.

As of press time, lawyers for Nene Tetteh Wakah IV had not publicly responded to the allegations.
