Politicians Must Leave A Good Legacy For The Youth

The Board Chairman of Ghana’s leading financial institution, Best Point Savings and Loans, Mr. Kwadwo Ohemeng Asumaning, has underscored the need for politicians to ensure that they leave a good legacy for the youth, who are the future leaders of the country.
Speaking in an interview with this reporter, Mr. Asumaning, who took over from Dr. Ofori Sarpong, who retired from the Board of Best Point Savings and Loans three years ago in line with the Bank of Ghana’s corporate governance rules, disclosed that politicians must use the nation’s resources judiciously for the benefit of future generations.
He said, “Politicians must leave a good legacy because their choices shape public trust, economic growth, and the daily lives of citizens long after they leave office. A strong and positive record ensures stability and inspires future generations.”
“Politicians must also borrow wisely by not leaving a huge debt burden for the youth, who are seen as the future leaders of the country, to come and settle,” the Board Chairman disclosed.
According to him, it is essential that the government creates an enabling environment for the teeming youth in the country to prevent them from indulging in all sorts of criminal acts, which undermine the integrity of the country.
Mr. Asumaning, who has previously served on the boards of several companies in the country, called for the introduction of extracurricular activities in schools with the aim of shaping the youth for a better future.
He, however, advised the youth to desist from acts that could go a long way in affecting their dreams and future, as well as the well-being of their families and the country as a whole.
“The youth must not follow blindly by allowing themselves to be influenced by their friends to become involved in acts that may jeopardize their lives,” he advised.
Mr. Asumaning further advised the teeming youth in the country to desist from using social media to insult elders in society, saying that showing respect would help preserve social harmony and promote mutual understanding.
“It is important that the youth consider the future consequences before involving themselves in any act,” he stated.
The youth, he said, must learn to become entrepreneurs rather than depending solely on the government for employment opportunities.
He also advised parents to invest heavily in their children rather than placing too much emphasis on material possessions, for the benefit of their children’s future and the well-being of their entire families.
