The management of Narawa Mining Company has allegedly reported, that some armed Military officials, have invaded their mining concession and forcibly taken over both their operations and offices, claiming their order, is from the office of the president.
In this sudden Military takeover, all fingers of the Narawa company, and the community members of the Akyem Heman and Nsoapemso, are pointing directly to the presidency.
This said mining concession, is located at Fanteakwa South in the Eastern Region.
According to the company, the alleged operation was led by one Ebenezer Atta Fynn, also known as Ben Doku or Ben, who is alleged to have been accompanied by armed civilians and military personnel during the reported takeover.
Narawa Mining Company claims that the group entered the concession and forcibly took control of the mining site with gunshots, resulting in the injuries of two other persons.
The armed Military Personnel, were also sighted as part of the operations, to have invaded one of the neighboring communities, Akyem Heman, where they deliberately shot down a 28 year old young man right in front of his own house, for no apparent reason. This, according to the eye- witnesses, was a deliberate move by the military, to put the entire communities under total fear and panic, just to deter them from interfering in their alleged mining takeover, without any licence or legitimate documents.
The deceased, identified only as Douglas, was reportedly shot during the confrontation, while a company security officer and a police officer also sustained gunshot wounds and were subsequently taken to a health facility for treatment.
Management alleges that the operation involved the destruction of CCTV cameras and the seizure of mobile phones belonging to workers, restricting their ability to communicate or document events at the concession.
The company further alleges that vehicles were used to block portions of the Akumasa Highway, while mining infrastructure, machinery and other equipment were reportedly damaged or seized.
Narawa also claims that a major mining tunnel was fired, processing facilities were damaged and gold-bearing concentrate was removed from the concession.
The Production and Operations Manager of Narawa Mining Company and Nkosuohene of Nsoapemso, Abdul Karim Fuseini, says he has been forced into hiding following alleged threats to his life.
Mr Fuseini also claims that his residence was invaded, raising concerns about the safety of management and workers.
According to the company, about 82 workers have fled the concession following the incident due to fears for their safety.
Narawa Mining Company maintains that it is the lawful holder of the large-scale mining concession and has operated under the lease since 2011.
Management says the lease was renewed in 2020 and is expected to remain valid until 2029.
The company explains that although its lease was previously subjected to an administrative termination, it challenged the decision through the appropriate legal channels and subsequently secured a court injunction on February 19, 2026, allowing it to remain on the concession pending determination of the substantive legal dispute.
Narawa therefore argues that the alleged forceful occupation of the concession is contrary to the existing legal process.
Management further alleges that persons involved in the takeover claimed that the concession had been reassigned to them “at the highest level,” allegedly with the backing of persons connected to the Presidency.
The company has also alleged that the Mahama brothers are connected to the reported operation and that Ebenezer Atta Fynn, also known as Ben Doku or Ben, led the action involving the military personnel and armed civilians.
Narawa further alleges that the military leader involved works from the office of the President’s brother.
However, the company says no official documentation or legal authorization from the Lands Commission or Minerals Commission has been presented to support the alleged reassignment of the concession.
Narawa Mining Company is therefore calling for a full investigation into the alleged takeover and the roles of all persons allegedly connected to the incident.
Management says it has documented evidence, including registration numbers of vehicles allegedly used during the operation, and has submitted reports to the relevant law enforcement authorities.
The company is appealing to the Minerals Commission, the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, the security agencies and the Presidency to intervene urgently to restore calm and protect workers and residents in the area.
It is also demanding investigations into the reported death, gunshot injuries, alleged destruction of property, seizure of mining equipment and removal of gold-bearing concentrate.
Narawa Mining Company insists that any competing claim to ownership or control of the concession must be determined through the courts and the established mining regulatory framework rather than through force.
The allegations involving the Mahama brothers, Ebenezer Atta Fynn and the military personnel have not been independently established, and the persons named have the opportunity to respond to the allegations.
Mining operations at the concession remain suspended, with workers reportedly staying away from the site amid heightened security concerns.
Meanwhile, the heavily armed military men, are still in charge of the site, while they also attack the innocent community members in the area, resulting in killing a 28 year old boy, right in front of his own house.
In their reaction to the death of their colleague, the youth and opinion leaders of Akyem Heman, have cried out loudly to the President, and all concerned agencies, to as a matter of urgency, redraw all the armed Military personnel from their land with immediate effect. The aggrieved youth, have threatened that, if the government does not act timely, they, as civilians living under the fear and panic at the gunpoint of these military men, would also create their own means of defence to save their lives.
All efforts by the media to hear from the side of these armed men, have proved futile, since the security at the concession at the moment, appears too heavy to penetrate.
