Tension is escalating in James Town as youth of the community have warned of imminent violence linked to the activities of Prince Asharku Bruce Quaye.
According to the youth, the community is sitting on a time bomb and if the police do not stop their one-sided approach to the chieftaincy issues in the area, violence could erupt.
At a gathering yesterday, youth representatives decried the rising confrontations and the palpable fear among residents.
“We are sitting on a powder keg. If the police don’t take action soon, the situation will spiral out of control,” one youth leader who pleaded anonymity warned.
The youth further accused the James Town police of fueling the crisis instead of ensuring peace.
“The James Town police, instead of being neutral, have taken sides and are supporting Prince Asharku, which is very bad in the quest to seek peace. They must therefore be called to order. It seems the commander and some officers are doing the bidding of Asharku,” one angry youth leader alleged.
Residents allege that the self-styled chief has fostered divisions among various groups in James Town, leading to heightened animosity and gang-related activities.
The youth say the open bias and inaction of the police in the face of brazen attacks has emboldened Prince Asharku’s supporters and left residents at the mercy of cutlass-wielding thugs.
“We need peace in our community, but it feels like we are being pushed towards chaos,” another youth activist stated, warning that if the police continue to look on while crimes are committed, the youth will have no choice but to defend themselves.
