Award-winning Ghanaian rapper Sarkodie has paid a courtesy call on the management of MobileMoney Ltd (MML) at the company’s head office in Accra, as both sides explore opportunities for deeper collaboration between Ghana’s creative and fintech industries.
The engagement focused on exploring areas of collaboration between the entertainment and financial technology sectors, particularly in promoting financial inclusion, digital financial services and opportunities within Ghana’s creative economy, beyond traditional event sponsorship.
Welcoming Sarkodie and his team, MobileMoney Ltd Chief Executive Officer, Shaibu Haruna, said the visit marked an important step towards strengthening collaboration between the two industries.
“On behalf of my colleagues, and in fact the entire MoMo family we choose to call ourselves family we want to say a big welcome to our home,” Mr. Haruna said.

He said while MobileMoney Ltd is a technology-driven company, its engagement with the entertainment industry is strategic, given the two sectors’ strong reach among the mass market. He said the partnership could provide an effective platform to reach more Ghanaians and create awareness of the company’s digital financial services.
“We have developed solutions that solve problems and bring the masses into Ghana’s financial ecosystem, and you are also connected with these customers. We develop a lot of solutions that need to be communicated to these masses,” he noted.
Mr Haruna noted that MobileMoney Ltd’s services have expanded beyond basic mobile wallet transactions to include a range of financial and lifestyle solutions, such as savings, loans, investments and event ticketing.
He added that collaborating with influential Ghanaian artistes could provide an effective platform for educating the public about these services and promoting the responsible use of digital financial tools.
“Music is a universal language, and we believe that through collaboration with people who have a mass following, we will be able to communicate how people can use our services safely and expose them to the different services that we provide,” he said.
Mr Haruna said partnerships with artistes form part of MobileMoney Ltd’s efforts to support Ghana’s entertainment industry, which he described as an important part of the country’s identity, alongside football.
Sarkodie Seeks Long-Term Partnership
For Sarkodie, the visit represented an opportunity to explore a relationship extending well beyond the conventional corporate sponsorship model.
The rapper acknowledged MobileMoney Ltd’s past support for his annual Rapperholic concert, but emphasized that his broader objective is to establish a long-term partnership that creates sustainable value for both the company and the creative industry.
“I am here today not like the usual business where we come and ask, ‘Can we get sponsorship for our show?’ and that’s it. It goes beyond just coming in and getting support,” Sarkodie said.
He pointed out that artistes and creative professionals maintain long-term visions for their careers—including album releases, tours, brand initiatives, and community engagement programs—and argued that corporate partnerships should be structured around shared objectives.
“I don’t want it to end with Rapperholic. What does MoMo have in the pipeline? What is your roadmap, and how do we come together to achieve something great?” he stated.
Sarkodie further proposed using his upcoming campus tour as a platform for MobileMoney Ltd to engage directly with young people, raising awareness about the company’s new MoMo app and its comprehensive suite of financial services.
“I think we have a plan of going on tour as far as the campuses are concerned. So it’s more of me being able to communicate what you guys want to put out there, and also you guys making it possible for us to be on the journey,” he explained.

Bridging Entertainment and Financial Technology
The discussions underscored the vast potential for stronger synergy between Ghana’s creative sector and financial technology companies, particularly in reaching youth and underserved communities.
With artistes commanding significant influence over young audiences, Sarkodie’s proposed campus tour could provide a natural avenue for blending entertainment with financial literacy and awareness. For MobileMoney Ltd, such partnerships help translate technological innovations into accessible messages that resonate across diverse demographics.
Ultimately, the engagement reflects a growing shift for Ghanaian brands and creative professionals: moving away from transactional sponsorships and toward collaborative partnerships built on shared audiences, engaging content, innovation, and measurable social impact.
However, both parties expressed commitment to future engagements to identify concrete areas of cooperation, focusing heavily on expanding financial inclusion, connecting young people to digital financial services, and accelerating the growth of Ghana’s creative economy.
