Residents of the Ga North Municipality have called on the Minister for Local Government and the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) to intervene in a land dispute at Fise involving the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Akwetey Agbo.
The dispute centres on a parcel of land which the alleged owner claims to have acquired legally and for which the Ga North Municipal Assembly reportedly issued a building permit after the required fees were paid.
According to the landowner, concerns arose when work on a Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compound allegedly commenced on the same land shortly after the permit was issued.
The landowner claims to possess title documents covering the property and says several letters were sent to the MCE to draw his attention to the matter. However, the owner alleges that the concerns were not addressed and that construction work continued.
The matter was subsequently reported to the police, but the landowner claims officers advised him to seek redress in court.
The owner says court processes were later served on the relevant division to notify the authorities that the dispute was before the court. Despite this, work allegedly continued on the site.
The landowner has also accused the Amasaman Divisional Police Commander, Mr Peter Adjei, of threatening to arrest him for trespassing on the property. These allegations have not been independently verified.
There are further allegations that the MCE is acting in concert with one Nathaniel Noi Addy, said to be a National Security officer operating in the municipality. However, the nature of any working relationship between the individuals and the basis of the allegations remain unclear.
The dispute has raised concerns among some residents, who believe the matter requires urgent attention from the relevant authorities to establish ownership of the land and ensure that the law is respected.
The landowner has also referred to an earlier publication alleging involvement by the MCE in another land dispute. According to the account, a lawyer’s warning letter was issued after the MCE’s name was mentioned, although the MCE reportedly denied involvement. The earlier allegations have not been independently established.
Residents have expressed concern that the dispute could undermine public confidence in local government administration if the allegations are not properly investigated.
They are therefore urging the Ministry of Local Government and the IGP to intervene, investigate the claims and ensure that the dispute is handled in accordance with the law.
The residents have also appealed to the government to ensure that public officeholders act within their mandate and that disputes involving public projects and privately claimed properties are resolved through the appropriate legal channels.
According to information provided by the complainant, a petition to the IGP is being prepared, while a writ was reportedly served on the MCE on October 15, 2026.
Efforts to reach Hon. Akwetey Agbo for his response to the allegations were unsuccessful as of press time.
The allegations against the MCE and the police commander remain unverified, and their responses are necessary to establish a fuller account of the dispute.
