Full name: Javits Badu Nkansah Frimpong) was a 15-year-old high school student from Ghana who was fatally shot in the Bronx, New York.
He was shot on October 29, 2026, near East 171st Street and Crotona Place in the Claremont neighborhood of the Bronx.
Javits moved from Ghana to the United States about a year prior to live with his father, Thomas Frimpong, and was a 10th-grade student at The DreamYard Preparatory School. He was described as a quiet, dedicated student who aspired to become a doctor.
While walking to school, Javits was pursued by three individuals wearing hoodies and surgical masks. He attempted to run and dropped his backpack, which was taken from the scene by a bystander before the suspects fired shots at him. He was rushed to St. Barnabas Hospital, where he later died.
NYPD detectives have been investigating potential motives—including a robbery gone wrong, mistaken identity, or possible school bullying (after his father reported that Javits had recently faced bullying and that two students were previously suspended). Police issued a subpoena to the New York City Department of Education for records regarding the bullying claims. As of early November 2026, no arrests had been publicly announced.
