LEAD Impact Foundation Calls on WAEC to Safeguard Integrity of 2025 WASSCE
LEAD IF calls for public accountability and zero tolerance for exam malpractice ahead of the August 5 exams

The LEAD Impact Foundation (LEAD IF) has called on the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) as a matter of urgency to swiftly take firm and transparent action to protect the credibility of the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), which begins on Tuesday, August 5.
In a statement issued in Accra on Monday, August 4, and signed by Wisdom Hammond and Humphrey Adjei, Co-Founders of the civil society group, LEAD Impact Foundation, warned that the persistent examination malpractices that have plagued recent WASSCE sittings are eroding the value of the certificate and tarnishing the reputation of Ghana’s education system.
“The sanctity of the WASSCE certificate is under unprecedented threat from organized criminal syndicates operating with the collusion of individuals entrusted with the exam’s administration,” the statement said. “These illegal activities, ranging from question leakages to invigilator-assisted cheating, devalue the efforts of honest, hardworking students.”
LEAD IF is urging WAEC to adopt a policy of zero tolerance and radical transparency by naming and shaming all individuals and institutions found culpable of examination fraud. The group emphasized that this must begin within the Council itself.
“We expect WAEC to publicly expose any of its permanent staff involved in exam fraud and ensure they are prosecuted. The same must apply to temporary personnel, such as invigilators, supervisors, and depot-keepers,” the statement said.
The foundation also called for sanctions against second-cycle schools identified as “cheating centres,” along with headmasters, teachers, and any other individuals who aid in compromising the integrity of the examination process.
Failure to act, LEAD IF warned, could result in the WASSCE certificate losing credibility on the global stage, producing “a generation of students with excellent grades but hollow minds.”
LEAD IF urged the Ministry of Education, Ghana Education Service (GES), security agencies, and parents to support efforts to ensure a clean and credible exam.
The foundation reaffirmed its commitment to quality education in Ghana and announced that it will be closely monitoring the conduct of the 2025 WASSCE.
“We expect nothing less than a clean, fair, and credible examination,” the statement concluded.
