TVET Council Will Enforce Standards and Bridge Skills Gap — Chairman Sebastian Deh

Newly inaugurated TVET Governing Council vows to align training with industry demands and promote technical skills for national development

The newly inaugurated Chairman of the Ghana Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Service Governing Council, Hon. Sebastian Deh, has pledged to ensure that all TVET institutions operate strictly in line with established guidelines to promote quality, accountability, and relevance.

Hon. Deh, who also serves as Member of Parliament for the Kpando Constituency, brings over two decades of experience to the role and is determined to help close the gap between academic training and industry needs.

Speaking to DailyAnalyst, he emphasized the critical role of TVET in Ghana’s economic development, noting that countries that have achieved industrial growth have done so by investing in technical and vocational training.

“Training Ghanaian youth with the requisite skills will ensure a ready pool of skilled labour to support industrial productivity and growth,” he said. “Beyond that, these trained individuals can start their own businesses, creating jobs and stimulating economic development.”

He reaffirmed the Council’s commitment to enforcing compliance across all TVET institutions and ensuring that they follow laid-down operational standards to deliver effective, industry-oriented training.

TVET Is Not for the Academically Weak

Hon. Deh dismissed the perception that TVET is a path for the academically weak, describing it as a misguided stereotype that undermines the importance of the sector.

He highlighted the economic potential of products created through technical skills, including locally made handbands, beads, footwear, furniture, pottery, mechanics, and food processing — many of which have the potential to reach international markets.

The MP stressed that TVET must be seen as a strategic vehicle for national development, product innovation, and youth empowerment. He urged all stakeholders to support the Council’s mission of strengthening Ghana’s technical education framework.
