Rebecca Ekpe Rallies Support in Bid for GJA Vice President
Rebecca Ekpe, Editor-in-Chief at GBC and Public Affairs Officer of the GJA, brings decades of experience, strategic vision, and a track record of results-driven leadership to her bid for Vice President of the Association

As members of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) head to the polls on Monday, June 30, 2025, seasoned journalist and communications professional Rebecca Ekpe is making a compelling case for her election as Vice President of the Association.
Currently serving as Editor-in-Chief at the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) and Public Affairs Officer of the GJA, Rebecca brings to the race a rich blend of leadership, advocacy, and hands-on newsroom experience that has spanned decades.
Her campaign is anchored on one promise: to help reposition the GJA as a forward-thinking, inclusive, and impactful association that genuinely reflects the needs of its members and the changing media landscape.
“This is not just about leadership for its own sake,” she told DailyAnalyst. “It is about purpose-driven service, restoring credibility, and equipping journalists for the demands of the modern newsroom.”
A Career Marked by Vision and Results
Rebecca Ekpe’s track record speaks for itself. From newsrooms to policy tables, she has played pivotal roles in shaping public discourse and influencing media development policy. Over the years, she has spearheaded development-oriented initiatives in collaboration with key partners, including the U.S. Embassy in Accra, aimed at media capacity building, professional ethics, and press freedom.
Her leadership at the GJA Public Affairs Desk has helped shape the Association’s public engagement, strategic messaging, and stakeholder relations. Her peers recognize her not only for her strategic insight but also for her calm, principled approach to solving problems.
Rebecca is also widely respected as a mentor to young journalists, having guided scores of emerging media professionals through mentorship programs, internships, and newsroom coaching. Many of them now serve in prominent positions across the country — a testament to her passion for nurturing talent and building the future of Ghanaian journalism.
Championing Credibility, Accountability, and Growth
Rebecca’s campaign highlights three key pillars: credibility, accountability, and growth. She believes the GJA must hold itself to the same standards it demands of others — with transparent leadership, financial discipline, and proactive communication.
She also seeks to strengthen regional branches, provide more training opportunities, and advocate for better conditions of service for journalists. “We must prioritize journalist welfare and professional growth. Without empowered journalists, our democracy suffers,” she stressed.
