The Ghana Police Service, in collaboration with the National Signals Bureau (NSB), has arrested two men over separate viral videos involving alleged incitement to violence and offensive remarks about Prophet Mohammed.
The first suspect, Masud Abdullah, a 35-year-old Imam, was arrested in connection with a video in which he allegedly advocated violence against people who speak ill of Prophet Mohammed.
According to the police, Abdullah allegedly made the remarks while delivering a sermon at a mosque at Ntensere in the Atwima Nwabiagya North District of the Ashanti Region.
In a related operation, the Police Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team arrested Daniel Junior Yaw Adjei, also known as Apostle Daniel JY Adjei, after he was captured in a video allegedly making derogatory and offensive comments about Prophet Mohammed.
The police said investigations into both incidents are ongoing and that the two suspects will be taken through due process in accordance with the law.
The Ghana Police Service also cautioned the public, particularly religious leaders, preachers, community leaders and social media commentators, against using freedom of religion and expression to promote violence or encourage attacks against others.

“Freedom of religion and freedom of expression must never be used as justification for inciting violence or encouraging members of the public to harm others,” the police said.
The Service stressed that utterances deemed to incite violence constitute offences and warned that individuals found culpable would be arrested and made to face the law.
“Such inciteful utterances constitute infractions and perpetrators will be arrested to face the full rigours of the law,” the police emphasised.
