Jomoro MP launches second phase of skills training

The Member of Parliament for Jomoro, Dorcas Affo-Toffey, in collaboration with the Ghana Enterprises Agency (GEA), has commenced the second phase of a skills training programme.
The aim is to equip young people and women in the constituency with practical skills to enhance their livelihoods and create sustainable sources of income.
The training, which began on Monday, August 24, 2026, is scheduled to end on Wednesday, August 26, 2026.
Being held in Half Assini, the municipal capital of the Jomoro Municipality, this time, the training is with a total of 150 participants benefiting from the programme.
The initiative focuses on four key areas: fruit juice processing, beads making, livestock farming and fish farming. These areas were selected to provide participants with practical entrepreneurial and agricultural skills that can be transformed into viable businesses and income-generating activities.
The programme forms part of efforts by Madam Affo-Toffey and the GEA to support the economic empowerment of constituents, particularly the youth and women, through skills development and entrepreneurship.
Participants are receiving hands-on training designed to give them practical knowledge that can be applied beyond the classroom.
The training in fruit juice processing and beads making is expected to equip beneficiaries with skills in value addition and creative enterprise, while the livestock and fish farming components seek to strengthen participants’ capacity in agricultural production.
Speaking on the importance of the programme, Godwin Alluekeh, who is the Personal Assistant to Madam Affo-Toffey and the coordinator of the programme said empowering young people and women with employable and entrepreneurial skills is critical to addressing unemployment and improving household incomes within the municipality.
The initiative also seeks to encourage beneficiaries to take advantage of local resources and opportunities to establish small businesses rather than relying solely on limited formal employment opportunities.
For many of the beneficiaries, the training presents an opportunity to acquire skills that could serve as a foundation for self-employment and further business development.
The second phase builds on the partnership between the Jomoro MP and the Ghana Enterprises Agency to promote skills acquisition and economic empowerment in the constituency.
As the programme draws to a close on Wednesday, participants are expected to complete the practical sessions with knowledge that can be used to develop businesses in their respective communities.
The organisers expressed the hope that the beneficiaries will put the skills acquired into practice and use them to create employment opportunities for themselves and others, contributing to the socio-economic development of the Jomoro Municipality.
