Mahama cuts sod for new 2,000-capacity car park at Accra Airport

President John Dramani Mahama has cut sod for the construction of a new multi-purpose, multi-tiered car park and hotel complex at the Accra International Airport.
The project, which will have a parking capacity of more than 2,000 vehicles, is expected to improve airport operations and enhance the passenger experience.
The sod-cutting ceremony at the Accra International Airport brought together President John Dramani Mahama, the Minister for Transport, Joseph Bukari Nikpe and the Deputy Minister for Transport, Dorcas Affo-Toffey.
The new development is expected to provide additional parking facilities while introducing a hotel complex as part of efforts to modernise infrastructure at Ghana’s main international gateway.
The project is also expected to contribute to improving efficiency at the airport and strengthening Accra’s position as an important aviation and connectivity hub in West Africa.
The Deputy Transport Minister Dorcas Affo-Toffey said the project forms part of broader efforts to build a modern, efficient and globally competitive aviation sector.
Beyond aviation, the project is expected to create opportunities in several sectors, including hospitality, transport, retail and related services.
According to the Deputy Transport Minister, the development aligns with government’s 24-Hour Economy agenda by creating jobs, stimulating investment and expanding economic opportunities around the airport.
The project is therefore expected to serve not only as an infrastructure upgrade but also as a catalyst for economic activity within the aviation and hospitality sectors.
With a capacity of more than 2,000 vehicles and an accompanying hotel complex, the development is expected to enhance the overall passenger experience while supporting the growing demands of Ghana’s aviation industry.
Government says initiatives of this nature are key to positioning Ghana as a stronger gateway to the West African subregion.
The project is expected to contribute to the modernisation of the Accra International Airport while supporting job creation, investment and the government’s broader 24-Hour Economy agenda.
