The Muhajirun African American Islamic Institute (AFRAMISCO) at Tema Community 23 has announced free admission and tuition for pupils for the 2026/2027 academic year, in a move aimed at helping families struggling to afford education.
The initiative would open opportunities for children from all backgrounds, including pupils whose education has been interrupted because their families are unable to meet the cost of schooling.
According to the Director of the School, Imam Jafar Issah, the initiative has been made possible through the support of a private individual who has pledged financial assistance towards teachers’ allowances, enabling the institution to waive admission and tuition fees for the academic year.
Imam Jafar Issah said its intervention is also intended to support pupils experiencing academic difficulties by providing them with the necessary attention, guidance and encouragement to improve their performance.
“The school has over the years recorded strong results in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), including candidates achieving aggregates 6, 7 and 8. Teachers identify pupils who are struggling academically and provide targeted support to help them improve their performance and build confidence,” he said.
The school operates under the motto, “Promoting Knowledge and Ethics,” with emphasis on academic achievement, discipline and character development.
Imam Jafar Issah also acknowledged the role of the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Dr Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, in the establishment and development of the institution.
Interestingly, the Chief Imam’s commitment to fostering harmony between the Muslim and Christian communities extends beyond the school’s teachings, with both Muslim and Christian children receiving tuition at the institution.
This commitment to peaceful coexistence was recently demonstrated when a Christian student who graduated from the school emerged as the best-performing candidate in the district in the BECE, scoring an aggregate of 8.
According Imam Jafar Issah, Sheikh Sharubutu built the institution for the Muhajirun African American Islamic Institute (MAAII) Association and serves as its Life Patron, with his visits, counsel, encouragement and prayers continuing to inspire the school community.
The announcement comes amid what the school described as attempts by some individuals involved in disputes over its land to spread false information and damage its reputation.
Imam Jafar Issah alleged that some persons who encroached on the school’s land and were unable to register the affected plots had subsequently engaged in efforts to portray the institution negatively and make it unpopular.
Imam Jafar Issah, however, said the alleged attacks had not affected its commitment to education, stressing that it had continued to grow and maintain strong academic performance in the BECE over the years.
He said its continued academic performance demonstrated its commitment to providing quality education despite the challenges and controversies surrounding the institution.
Imam Jafar Issah is therefore inviting parents and guardians facing financial difficulties, as well as those with children who have dropped out of school or are struggling academically, to take advantage of the free education opportunity.
Hew averred that the initiative was aimed at ensuring that financial circumstances did not prevent children from accessing quality education as it reaffirmed its commitment to providing an environment where pupils could acquire knowledge, develop discipline and build the confidence needed to reach their full potential.
Under the initiative, eligible pupils will receive free admission and free tuition for the 2026/2027 academic year, as AFRAMISCO seeks to expand access to education for children in Tema Community 23 and surrounding communities.
The Director however, appealed for support from other well-meaning individuals as it embarks on this journey to bringing quality and free tuition to children.
