The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced a comprehensive roadmap for its 2026 internal elections, outlining timelines, nomination fees, and guidelines for aspirants seeking positions at various levels of the party.
The reorganisation plan was presented at a press briefing by the party’s General Secretary, who said the exercise is aimed at strengthening internal structures, promoting unity, and enhancing grassroots participation ahead of future national elections.
Filing fees announced
The party disclosed that aspirants for national executive positions will pay varying fees, with the national chairmanship pegged at GHS50,000, vice chairmanship at GHS30,000, and the general secretary position at GHS25,000. All other national executive positions will cost GHS10,000.
At the regional level, nomination forms for chairmanship will cost GHS10,000, while vice chairmanship positions are set at GHS8,000. Other regional positions will attract a fee of GHS5,000.
For constituency-level contests, aspirants are expected to pay between GHS500 and GHS1,500, while polling station and electoral area positions have been set at GHS10 and GHS50 respectively.
The party also announced a 50 per cent reduction in fees for youth organisers, women organisers, and persons with disabilities.
In addition, candidates seeking to contest for the position of constituency secretary are required to have at least a diploma qualification.
Timeline for elections
According to the roadmap, the reorganisation process will begin with a nationwide membership drive scheduled from March 1 to March 31, 2026.
This will be followed by a membership verification exercise from April 1 to April 14.
Polling station elections are expected to take place from May 10 to May 16, after which elections at the electoral area, constituency, regional, and national levels will be conducted in phases through September 2026.
The party indicated that national executive elections will be held from September 18 to September 20.
Elections for the party’s external branches and chapters are also scheduled to take place between June and August 2026.
Guidelines for polling station elections
The NPP outlined procedures for the conduct of polling station elections, stating that the process will be supervised by a three-member committee appointed by its Central Executive Committee.
The committee will be made up of senior party members, former executives, current or former Assembly Members, former Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives, Members of Parliament, parliamentary candidates, and other opinion leaders.
Voting is expected to take place at designated polling stations between 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., with candidates required to be nominated and seconded by registered party members.
The party said all registered members at the polling station level will be eligible to vote, with elections to be conducted either by ballot or by headcount.
