McDan Pays Emotional Tribute to Fallen Friend in Helicopter Crash

Business leader and philanthropist Dr. Daniel McKorley has paid a heartfelt tribute to Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah, one of the victims of last Wednesday’s tragic Ghana Air Force helicopter crash.

Dr. McKorley, who shared a close personal bond with Sgt. Addo Mensah, visited the late officer’s family on Monday to offer his condolences and support as they prepare for his burial. He also made a donation and provided supplies to assist the family during this difficult time.

Visibly moved, he recalled their long friendship:

“He was a brother. From the moment I bought my first helicopter, he was the first person I called. Every time I visited the Air Force Station, he was there, waiting. Today, stepping into his home is deeply painful. We were close, and his absence leaves a heavy void. I may not understand why this happened, but I know God has a plan.”

Just days earlier, on Friday, 8th August 2025, Dr. McKorley joined national leaders at Jubilee House to lay flowers in memory of all eight lives lost in the crash — a solemn moment in Ghana’s three-day national mourning.

The helicopter accident on Wednesday, 6th August 2025, claimed the lives of eight people, including Defence Minister Edward Omane Boamah, Environment Minister Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator Limuna Mohammed Muniru, NDC Vice Chairman Samuel Sarpong, former parliamentary candidate Samuel Aboagye, and three Air Force crew members.

The late Sgt. Addo Mensah is remembered not only for his service to the nation but also for the warmth and loyalty he extended to those who knew him best.
