Afia Brayie Ossei Signals Shake-Up in Oforikrom as She Targets NDC Women’s Organizer Role

National Democratic Congress activist Afia Brayie Ossei targets grassroots women mobilisation to challenge NPP dominance in Oforikrom ahead of 2028 polls.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Oforikrom is heading for a strategic reset as Afia Brayie Ossei (Mrs.), a long-time party activist, has officially declared her intention to contest for the position of Women’s Organizer, with a clear resolve to transform women into a decisive political force ahead of the 2028 elections.

Ms. Brayie’s declaration is being interpreted within party circles as a move to reposition the women’s wing as a frontline engine for mobilisation rather than a ceremonial structure.

She argues that winning Oforikrom will depend largely on how effectively women are organised, empowered, and integrated into the party’s grassroots machinery.

“The political strength of any constituency lies with its women,” Ms. Brayie said. “If women are properly organised, educated, and motivated, electoral outcomes can change. Oforikrom is no exception.”
With the constituency widely regarded as an NPP stronghold, Ms. Brayie insists that the narrative of permanent political dominance is outdated.

She points to the 2024 elections as evidence that voter loyalty is shifting and that the NDC’s growing presence in the Ashanti Region presents a clear opening.

According to her, disciplined grassroots work, particularly among women, could tilt the balance by 2028.

Drawing on her experience in community engagement and health advocacy, Ms. Brayie says her approach will prioritise everyday issues that directly affect households, including health education, sanitation, nutrition, and social welfare. She maintains that addressing these concerns is not only a social responsibility but also a political strategy capable of consolidating long-term voter trust.

Ms. Brayie also underscored her long-standing commitment to the NDC, citing years of financial support, campaign involvement, and logistical contributions at both constituency and regional levels.

She described her bid as a continuation of that service rather than a personal political experiment.

Beyond elections, she identified women’s inclusion in decision-making as a central pillar of her agenda. “Women cannot remain on the margins of party planning and development discussions.

They must be part of the decision-making process if the party is serious about growth and victory,” Ms. Brayie said.

She further expressed confidence in the NDC’s broader political direction, describing the party as prepared to govern and capable of delivering results under experienced leadership. According to Ms. Brayie, visible development initiatives and strengthened local governance structures remain key benchmarks of the party’s appeal.

Ms. Brayie’s entry into the race is expected to intensify internal engagement within the NDC in Oforikrom, as the party positions itself for a more competitive and structured push toward the 2028 general elections.
