Bryan Acheampong has dismissed claims that he is positioning himself to contest the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential candidacy in 2032, reaffirming his support for Dr Mahamudu Bawumia ahead of the 2028 general election.
The denial follows allegations by Benjamin Gyewu-Appiah on Onua TV that attempts were being made to bring former Energy Minister Boakye Agyarko into the NPP’s national leadership to undermine Dr Bawumia and create a path for Mr Acheampong to pursue the party’s presidential candidacy in 2032.
In a statement signed by his spokesperson, Pius Enam Hadzide, Mr Acheampong described the allegation as “reckless, divisive and completely untrue.”
He cautioned NPP members against using speculation and attacks on fellow party members to demonstrate their loyalty to Dr Bawumia, warning that such conduct could undermine party unity.
According to the statement, the NPP’s 2028 presidential contest was settled on January 31, 2026, and attention must now shift towards rebuilding the party and preparing for the general election.
It urged party leaders, communicators and activists to focus on uniting supporters, winning the 2028 presidential election and securing a parliamentary majority.
“If their commitment to Dr Bawumia’s victory is genuine, it should be demonstrated through constructive action—not malicious claims, needless attacks or speculation about the ambitions of others,” the statement said.
Mr Acheampong reaffirmed his commitment to supporting Dr Bawumia and the NPP’s efforts to return to government in 2028.
“For the avoidance of doubt, Hon. Bryan Acheampong remains fully committed to the NPP’s 2028 project and to supporting Dr Mahamudu Bawumia in the party’s effort to return to government. He has no interest in premature succession politics,” the statement added.
It called for unity, discipline and focus within the NPP, stressing that internal attacks could derail the party’s preparations for the 2028 elections.

This allegation is reckless, divisive and completely untrue. Those seeking to prove their loyalty to Dr. Bawumia through speculation and attacks on fellow party members are doing the NPP no good.
The NPP’s 2028 presidential contest was settled on 31 January 2026. Our focus must therefore remain firmly on winning the 2028 presidential election and securing a parliamentary majority.
