MTN Ghana has cautioned customers to remain vigilant against rising cases of scams and phishing attacks targeting mobile phone and internet users through suspicious links shared via WhatsApp, SMS, emails and fake websites.
According to the telecom giant, fraudsters are increasingly impersonating trusted individuals, banks, government institutions and companies to deceive unsuspecting users into revealing sensitive personal and financial information.
In a public advisory, MTN Ghana urged customers not to click on unfamiliar or suspicious links, especially messages claiming users must “verify accounts,” “claim prizes,” or “update information” urgently.
The company advised customers to be cautious of messages that create panic or offer deals that appear too good to be true. It also encouraged users to verify senders independently instead of responding directly to suspicious messages or using provided contact details.
MTN Ghana further reminded customers to ensure websites are secure before entering sensitive information by checking for “https://” and a padlock icon in the browser address bar.
The company stressed that it will never request customers’ passwords, PINs or full card details through text messages or social media links.
Customers who suspect fraudulent activity or believe their personal information has been compromised have been advised to contact MTN customer support through 100 or report the matter to the police via 0800311311.
MTN Ghana said protecting customer data and digital security remains a top priority as cyber fraud continues to evolve.
