Beatrice Owarewa Siaw, a member of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Council of Patrons and an aspiring parliamentary candidate for Mampong, has died.
Ms Siaw, popularly known as “Nana Yaa,” reportedly died at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi, according to a source close to her.
Her death was confirmed on Saturday night, sending shockwaves among relatives, friends and political associates.
According to the source, Ms Siaw had been making preparations to travel to China before her death.
Concern over her whereabouts reportedly grew after attempts to reach her by phone proved unsuccessful. The source subsequently contacted her uncle, who also indicated that he had been unable to reach her.
It later emerged that Ms Siaw had driven herself to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.
According to the account, she complained of general body weakness after arriving at the hospital and was reportedly pronounced dead shortly afterwards.

The circumstances surrounding her death have not yet been officially disclosed by the hospital or her family.
Her vehicle has since reportedly been moved to a police station as relatives await further information and make arrangements following her death.
Ms Siaw was known within the NPP and had expressed interest in representing the party as a parliamentary candidate for Mampong.
