MTN Ghana has donated GH¢30,000, airtime worth GH¢2,000 and assorted drink hampers to support the celebration of the 89th Ada Asafotufiami Festival, reaffirming its commitment to promoting Ghana’s cultural heritage and strengthening ties with traditional communities.
The support continues MTN Ghana’s longstanding partnership with the Ada Traditional Area and forms part of the telecommunications company’s broader engagement with traditional councils across the country.
Presenting the donation on behalf of the company, Francis Gyang, Sales Manager for MTN Ghana’s Southeast Business District, said MTN was proud to once again associate with the chiefs and people of Ada as they celebrate one of Ghana’s prominent traditional festivals.
He said the Asafotufiami Festival has remained an important platform for preserving the history and cultural identity of the people of Ada while fostering unity and creating opportunities for tourism and socioeconomic development.
“For the people of Ada, this festival is far more than a date on the calendar. It is a living record of your history, a display of your resilience, and a reminder of what unity can build,” Mr Gyang said.
He noted that what began as a traditional homecoming has grown over the years into a major cultural gathering that brings together residents, citizens living outside the traditional area, tourists and other visitors.
According to him, the festival’s ability to preserve tradition while attracting people from different backgrounds demonstrates the important role cultural celebrations can play in promoting community development and national cohesion.
Mr Gyang said MTN Ghana was particularly proud of its relationship with the Ada Traditional Area, having supported the Asafotufiami Festival for 19 consecutive years.
“For 19 years running, MTN has stood beside the Ada Traditional Area during this festival, and that consistency is not by accident. It reflects who we are as a brand: a company that measures its success not only in networks and numbers, but also in the lives we touch and the communities we help build,” he stated.
He explained that MTN’s continued participation goes beyond providing financial assistance, stressing that the company considers itself a partner in efforts to preserve and promote the cultural heritage of the people.
“We return this year for the same reason we have returned every year before — to reaffirm our bond with Ada and to back that bond with real support for the work of preserving and celebrating your heritage,” he said.
Mr Gyang noted that the company’s partnership with traditional authorities is not limited to Ada, as MTN supports several traditional councils and festivals across Ghana.
He said the company believes traditional authorities remain important custodians of Ghana’s cultural heritage and key partners in the development of communities.
MTN marks 30 years in Ghana
Mr Gyang said this year’s Asafotufiami Festival holds additional significance for MTN Ghana as the company celebrates 30 years of operations in Ghana.
He observed that while Ada celebrates the 89th edition of Asafotufiami and prepares for its landmark 90th anniversary, MTN is also reflecting on three decades of connecting Ghanaians and supporting communities across the country.
“As Ada marks 89 years and looks forward to its 90th anniversary, MTN Ghana is also marking a milestone of its own 30 years of connecting Ghanaians and helping to build lives across this country,” he said.
Mr Gyang expressed appreciation to the people of Ada for their loyalty and patronage over the years, saying their trust has contributed to MTN’s growth and success in Ghana.
He said the company’s 30th anniversary provides an opportunity not only to celebrate its achievements but also to deepen relationships with customers and communities that have supported its operations.
Customer engagement during festival
Beyond the donation, MTN Ghana will establish customer experience centres at strategic locations throughout the festival celebrations.
Mr Gyang said the centres would provide an opportunity for customers to interact directly with MTN representatives, receive assistance with services and raise concerns requiring attention.
He stressed that MTN views the Asafotufiami Festival not only as an occasion to make a donation but also as an important opportunity to listen to customers and understand their needs.
The engagements, he said, would allow the company to address customer concerns and hold conversations around safety and the overall experience of subscribers within the area.

Mr Gyang congratulated Nene Kabu Abram Akuaku III, Paramount Chief of Ada, the chiefs, elders, Festival Planning Committee and the people of the Ada Traditional Area on the successful celebration of the 89th Asafotufiami Festival.
He also wished the traditional area continued unity, peace, good health and prosperity as the people look forward to the historic 90th anniversary of the festival.
