NPP 2028 flagbearer Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has launched a reconciliation push following the party’s regional elections, reaching out to defeated aspirants and warning that lingering internal rivalries could undermine the New Patriotic Party’s bid to recapture power.
Dr Bawumia said winners and losers of the regional contests must immediately close ranks, insisting that the party cannot afford to carry divisions from its internal elections into the 2028 campaign.
“I am open to work with everyone to ensure the party wins the 2028 elections,” he declared.
He made the remarks on Sunday, August 16, when newly elected Greater Accra Regional executives of the party paid a courtesy call on him at his office.
Dr Bawumia particularly urged newly elected executives to resist triumphalism and reach out to those they defeated, stressing that the internal contest was over and the focus must now shift to rebuilding a united political machinery.
“This election is over. You had competitors, let us come together,” he said.
According to Dr Bawumia, unity will be the NPP’s most important weapon in its attempt to return to government after the 2028 general elections.
“If we are united, we will win the 2028 election because that is the key ingredient of victory,” he said.

The NPP has completed elections at the polling station, electoral area, constituency and regional levels as part of its reorganisation, with national executive elections scheduled for October 3.
Dr Bawumia said completing the internal reorganisation would provide the party with the structure required to prosecute an effective campaign.
His intervention effectively shifts the NPP’s immediate challenge from winning internal positions to healing divisions created by the contests and transforming competing camps into a united force for the 2028 elections.
