The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening peace and security in West Africa through deeper collaboration and strategic engagement with key regional stakeholders.
As part of efforts to enhance regional peace support mechanisms, the ECOWAS Commission convened a three-day Lessons Learned Workshop on Peace Support Operations (PSOs) deployments in the region in Abuja.
The workshop, held on May 6, 2026, brought together stakeholders to review past peace support operations, assess operational challenges and identify strategies to improve future interventions across West Africa.
According to ECOWAS, the initiative forms part of broader regional efforts aimed at strengthening collective security responses and promoting sustainable peace within member states.
The Commission noted that the workshop also provided a platform for participants to share experiences, lessons and best practices from previous peacekeeping and stabilisation missions in the region.
