Tensions are reportedly mounting in parts of Accra over plans linked to the installation of this new Ga Manye, with concerns that the situation could highly escalate into clashes if urgent steps are not taken to address the growing disagreement.
Reports indicate that the development has generated uneasy tension among some factions within the Ga traditional area, amidst disputes surrounding the legitimacy and process of the intended installation which is alleged to be carried by Ga Mantse, King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II (Kelvin Tackie.)
According to Ga Elders, the installation of a Ga Manye does not fall within the authority of the Ga Mantse, hence his alleged decision to install a new Ga Manye can only escalate tension and cast a dent on the customs and tradition of the Ga people.
While details remain fluid, sources say the controversy centers on competing claims and differing interpretations of traditional succession procedures following the passing of the late Ga Manye, Naa Dedei Omaedro II.
Some stakeholders are said to be questioning the propriety of the proposed installation, describing it as premature, while others maintain that the process is in line with established customs which is completely false but rather a defiance of the GA customs and traditions.
The situation has triggered heightened security concerns in certain communities, with calls for calm and dialogue to prevent any breakdown of law and order.
Already some royal families have expressed worry over the support from the President John Dramani Mahama to the claimant Ga mantse King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II saying he has really disappointed them on the GA mantse issue.
They pointed out some factual statements made publicly by the said King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II during the good days and turner of Ex-President Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo as in full solidarity to the NPP government.
They noted that big shots in NPP, allegedly used of state machinery and state funds were used in bringing him to power as Ga Mantse and even the Ex-President Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo on his last visit to the GA Traditional Council personally made it clear to the whole world that it was his efforts and some of his minister who championed the course to bringing him to that big position as Ga Mantse.
The people of GA mashie are gradually loosing confidence and believe that come 2028 even though President John Dramani Mahama would not be there, a big lesson will be learnt by the NDC party again.
Meanwhile, the Ga Abola Piam Tunma We Dzaasetse, Nii Ayi Ana Konteh I, has called on President John Dramani Mahama to immediately intervene and halt any intended installation of a new Ga Manye, arguing that such a move is sacrilegious and would be contrary to Ga tradition customs and usages while the late Ga Manye, Naa Dedei Omaedro II, has not yet been buried.
He maintained that customary processes and traditions, norms must be highly respected to preserve peace, law and order within the Ga State.
According to Nii Ayi Ana Konteh I, the installation of a Ga Manye is never and not the prerogative of any Ga Mantse, stressing that established traditional protocols must be followed in the selection and enstoolment of a royal queen mother of the GA State.
He warned that any attempt to proceed with an installation outside the accepted customary framework could heighten tensions and create divisions among the Ga people, and therefore appealed to all stakeholders, and pursue dialogue.
Traditional authorities and opinion leaders are expected to engage in consultations in the coming days to address the rising tensions and find a peaceful resolution.
Security agencies are also being urged to monitor developments closely to prevent any escalation into conflict and called on the NIB to be on the grounds to gather intelligence on the situation and report back to His Excellency the President John Dramani Mahama for perfect decisions to strengthen his relationship with the people of the GA State.
For now, residents are being encouraged and advised to remain calm by the TUNMA WE ROYAL FAMILY DZAASETSE Nii Ayi Ana Konteh I, as he puts in efforts to ensure stability and peace within the Ga traditional area is maintained.
It could be recalled that barely a month ago the tension escalated which was brought under control by the family of Captain Asafoatse Nseini Mankatah over his position taken away from him for failing to honour his functions at the GA Traditional Council and following the claimant Ga mantse to state functions.
These decisions by Captain Asafoatse Nseini Mankatah was necessary based on some threats and attacks against him by some land guards and thugs surrounded by the claimant Ga mantse at the GA Traditional Council whom he has been using to perform some functions outside the jurisdiction of the GA Traditional Council.
These thugs were only considered for duties which Captain Asafoatse Nseini Mankatah was not ready to perform due to some legal implications which it might generate.
The issue became so obvious that Captain Asafoatse Nseini Mankatah was on three occasions attacked by these thugs and land guards at gun point threatening his life to death.
The family of Captain Asafoatse Nseini Mankatah then called for a meeting and advise him to stay away from the functional duties of serving at the GA Traditional Council.
This, did not go well for the claimant Ga mantse, usurped the powers of his DZAASETSE Nii Tetteh Kwei and reconstituted what is being described as ‘Unlawful’ paraded Ga dzaase Council led by Thomas Ololai Botchway and some others; such as Joe Benny and their cohorts to form a new Ga dzaae Council to install one Asafoatse Okujiotuo who they claim hails from ABOLA but could not be justified because there is an already sitting Asafoatse Okujiotuo a customs officer in service at the Northern Region of Ghana.
This time around the same King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II has direct and reorganize the same unlawfully constituted Council to usurped the powers of Nii Tettekkwei to plan the installation of a new Ga Manye Without the burial of the late GA Manye Naa Dedei Omadroe II, who is currently in the morgue; as alleged.
These decisions by King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II would be said to be one of the most “sacrilegious act ever performed in the history of the people of GA mashie and a complete historical dent on the image of GA Dangbe if not stopped,” Nii Ayi Ana Konteh I said.
