Arise Ghana to Picket U.S. Embassy Over Ofori-Atta Extradition on Jan. 20
Pressure Mounts as Arise Ghana Targets U.S. Embassy Over Ofori-Atta

Pressure group Arise Ghana says it will picket the U.S. Embassy in Accra on Tuesday, Jan. 20, at 8 a.m., to demand the immediate extradition of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta to face alleged financial impropriety charges in Ghana.
The protest, under the hashtag #BringBackKenOfori-Atta, follows a press conference held on Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2026, at the International Press Centre, where the group accused authorities of failing to act on its calls for accountability.
Addressing the media, Co-Convener Marion Gifty Nyaaba said recent economic stabilization gains would be unsustainable without justice for past financial mismanagement, stressing that governance must be measured by accountability, not economic indicators alone.
Arise Ghana called on the attorney general, the Office of the Special Prosecutor and the Economic and Organised Crime Office to prosecute all individuals implicated in financial scandals, singling out Ofori-Atta as a key figure who must not evade justice.
The group said the decision to picket the U.S. Embassy is aimed at drawing international attention to the case and urging cooperation should extradition processes be initiated.
It urged supporters, civil society groups and concerned citizens to join the peaceful demonstration, describing it as a civic action to reinforce democratic accountability.
Arise Ghana said the protest forms part of its broader campaign to promote accountability, transparency and the rule of law in Ghana.
