The family of the late Apostle Prof. Emeritus Ing. Kwadwo Safo, Founder and Leader of the Kristo Asafo Mission of Ghana, has alleged that his daughter, Hon. Sarah Adwoa Safo, is demanding GH₵3.7 million before allowing his burial to proceed.
In a statement issued by the family, they claim Ms. Safo is “effectively holding her father’s mortal remains to ransom” with a demand for Three Million, Seven Hundred Thousand Ghana Cedis (GH₵3,700,000) described in her correspondence as “initial preparation” towards the funeral.
Timeline of Events According to the Family.
According to the family’s statement:
June 4, 2026: Ms. Safo wrote to the family lawyer requesting a meeting to “cooperate and resolve the funeral matters amicably,” noting that “customary law is quiet and orderly.”
After the family lawyer fixed a meeting: The family alleges Ms. Safo did not attend. She later held a press conference announcing burial and funeral dates of July 30 and 31, 2026.
July 21, 2026: A second letter was sent through her lawyers expressing a desire “to cooperate with the family towards the funeral.” The family alleges the same letter contained the GH₵3.7 million demand. A meeting was again not granted after the family responded.
Will Reading: The family states that following the reading of the Will — an action they say Ms. Safo initiated — custody of the body and funeral arrangements were vested in Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena, son of the late Apostle.
Family’s Position
The family, in the statement issued by them, stated the following:
No agreement exists with Ms. Safo on funeral arrangements.
The GH₵3.7 million demand is “outright extortion and a clear attempt to hold the body of Apostle Prof. Ing. Kwadwo Safo hostage.”
All funeral dates previously announced by Ms. Safo are “null and void” and are “hereby put on hold indefinitely.”
The family said the lawful custodians of the burial rites are Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena and the Aduana Kotoko Royal Family of Essumeja. They added that new dates and a befitting burial programme “that honours the legacy of the Founder” will be announced in due course.

“The body of Apostle Prof. Ing. Kwadwo Safo shall be laid to rest with the dignity he earned in life, not held for ransom by anyone,” the family stated. They urged the public to “disregard any further announcements emanating from Adwoa Safo and to treat the monetary demand with the contempt it deserves.”
The family said it issued the statement to set the record straight and to inform the public and members of the Kristo Asafo Mission.
